The Role

We are currently expanding our legal capabilities to meet the needs that our business growth requires.
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our vibrant and global legal team as Legal Counsel on a full-time, permanent basis. The role reports into the General Counsel and will focus on advising Shearwater`s Marine Acquisition department on procedures and standards to reduce the risk and instil best practice, as well as managing the process of legal review of Shearwaters marine suppliers.
This role could be located in our office in Bergen or Oslo, Norway or Gatwick, UK.
Duties and responsibilities
Manage the process of legal review of marine suppliers, including reviewing and negotiating BIMCO charter parties, and implementing standards and processes, providing clarification on legal language or specifications to the organisation.
Assist with implementation of sub-contractor management standards globally.
Support the Marine Acquisition department in its commercial activities.
Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding supplier and sales contracts and ensure project-specific risks are continually evaluated and reduced through formal risk assessments.
Implementation and management of internal governance policies and regularly monitoring compliance from a legal perspective.
Deal with external parties (regulators, external legal counsel, clients) as applicable.
Provide and manage general legal support across the organisation.
Assist in preparing and populating Shearwater’s generic library of precedents for work across all business lines.
Qualifications
Authorized Law practitioner with proven legal understanding
Relevant work experience and maritime background.
Organised, with ability to prioritise activities, provide advice and make decisions in complex situations with many parties involved.
Works independently and demonstrates initiative.
Possess positive attitude, teamwork capabilities, interpersonal and communication skills.
High ethical awareness and integrity.
Good spoken and written English skills.
