Job description
The position holds the overall responsibility for the legal and compliance function for all the Nordic countries. As such you will be expected to work on both a strategic and operational level. You will be expected to support the management team and the Board of Directors with legal advice, proactively as well as reactively, you will be asked to identify and address legal risks in projects and business development initiatives, you will draft, review and participate in the negotiation of commercial contracts, as well as assist with potential disputes, you will assist the organisation with insurance matters, and you will have the lead on procuring, managing and leading external legal counsels across the Nordics.
You will also be expected to contribute to legal knowledge building within the company, and to develop legal policies, processes, and templates to strengthen the organisation’s degree of autonomy in legal matters and to help steer and guide the business during its rapid expansion.
As the head of the compliance function, your responsibility will extend to ensure that Recharge conforms – both in terms of policies, knowledge, and behavior – to the expectations of the shareholders and the Board, as well as with applicable local regulations. Furthermore, you will serve as the secretary of the Board of Directors for both Recharge AS and its subsidiaries.
Qualifications
- You should possess a Master of Law or equivalent. For Norway-based candidates, a qualified lawyer certificate (advokatbevilgning) is a plus but not a requirement.
- We’re looking for a person with ca 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- Previous experience as an in-house counsel in a private sector organisation is a distinct advantage.
- Previous experience as a Secretary to the Board of Directors (styret/styrelsen) would be a plus but is not a requirement provided you are comfortable with handling the procedural requirements of the Board.
- You should have good knowledge of company law, commercial contract law, as well as associated dimensions of EEA/EU law. Knowledge of other relevant legal disciplines such as competition law, real estate law, energy law, labor law, and insurance law would be an advantage, as would previous experience with compliance matters.
- Our corporate language is English and many of our contracts are also in English. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are hence a requirement and you should feel comfortable drafting and reviewing contracts in the English language.
- We are a Nordic organisation with presence in all the Nordic countries except for Island. We do not expect you to be deeply familiar with the laws and legal systems of all the countries, however it is important that you have the willingness to learn the basics in whatever area is relevant for the role and that you can make a judgement as to when the support of outside counsels is required.
Personal qualities
To thrive and succeed in this role, you should be analytical, business oriented and commercial. As an in-house legal counsel, good communication skills are essential and notably the ability to communicate legal topics and language in a simple and pragmatic manner to non-lawyers, as well as the ability to make pragmatic and risk-balanced judgements on legal matters in your recommendations to the rest of the organisation.
We are a scale-up business and within this context you will “own” the legal and compliance function and should have the drive and sense of responsibility to continuously develop both the function itself and the overall legal competence and awareness of the organisation. This means that you should be a distinct team-player albeit with a high execution capacity and the ability to work independently within your area of responsibility.
We are a purpose-driven company and welcome talented individuals who would like to contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable future. A commitment to our values Dare, Care and Share is also important. We have a down-to-earth and friendly culture where a sense of humility and good social skills will be important assets to make you successful in building strong relationships across the organisation.
We offer
- Competitive conditions and flexible working hours
- Modern and central location in either Moss, Norway or Stockholm, Sweden
- Great corporate culture within an international work-environment
- Great opportunities to contribute to the development of the company in a growing industry
- Varied position with the possibility of shaping your own working day
